Waiting, on New York

New York Magazine’s 2016 fall fashion issue featured waitresses in New York City. They wanted young, ambitious and cool. After 15 years of waiting tables in NYC I felt this wasn’t a huge challenge. Then I realized various boroughs and neighborhoods needed to be represented and my Manhattancentric experience made the initially easy task, suddenly daunting.

My search took me through TriBeCa, Soho, Astor Place, The East Village, The Lower East Side, Staten Island and Brighton Beach. I won’t bore you with the details but Staten Island was challenging and in Brighten Beach, I was chased down the street by a restaurant manager. All in a day’s work . The end result is a beautiful array of women, serving diners in New York City while trying to make their dreams come true.
