Many people haven’t heard of this lovely little city, as far North as you can go in the Netherlands. If you’re doing a Euro trip by car, I suggest stopping there on your way to Germany for one night or lunch. Its a lively college town with some good eats. This happened to be my 5th time in Groningen (I know).
The Prinsenhof is highly recommended if you plan on spending the night. This hotel was once a royal home and the luxurious charm is still there. The Grand Cafe has delicious food and an excellent breakfast buffet. I personally like the wine selection :).
What I had: Mushroom ravioli and a sensible glass on red wine.
