The Dutchess $$$
Fairly new restaurant in the city center, with a hip and refined crowd. Beautiful decor and excellent service. We had the chicken schnitzel which was juicy and crisp. The braised short rib pasta: The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, however the braised beef was a bit over cooked which through the overall texture of the meal off. Very affordable wine selection. Excellent service and HOT staff. There’s also a cute store called Banks in the hotel, where I purchased a fun pair of United Nude shoes!
South American Steakhouse with delicious devices. The first spicy margarita I’ve had in the Netherlands, which was on par with the countless I’ve had in Mexico. Delicious marbleized steaks.
Pork fried rice
Steak (of course)
Went for Sunday brunch and this restaurant looks more intimidating than it really is. Its in close proximity to the zoo, you’re able to see birds in the pond while eating your lunch. The high ceilings and greenhouse like design create a tropical feel. I had the chicken tartine, chicken with Mediterranean spices, tzatziki, roasted red peppers on thick crusted bread.
Also went in for dinner one night and the selections were still delicious.
The Amstel at the Intercontinental Hotel $$$
Met friends for an afternoon glass of wine. The hotel has stunning views of the canal. In the summer season, lunch on the terrace is delightful and highly recommended. They offer a nice prefix menu and a great wine selection. On my most recent visit in December there was a huge bonus, the magnificent Christmas tree displayed in the hotel lobby! I was the only person more excited than the children.
Reservation recommended as this restaurant is quite popular. This restaurant has a middle eastern style setting with mosaic tiled walls and decorative plants. I recommend the oysters, Chicken and octopus.
Ron Gastrobar Oriental $$$
I had a serious craving for Asian food and this restaurant came highly recommended. It’s fairly new and reservations are recommended. Very sexy vibe with a great cocktail list and flavorful menu options. We started with duck spring rolls, then moved to dumplings and dim sum, finishing with 3 hot dishes.
I recommend the wagyu beef and foie gras buns and pork.
The Butcher $$
Sexy underground cocktail bar where you need a membership to get into. If you’re a burger lover, the restaurant upstairs is perfect.
Note: There are multiple locations throughout Amsterdam but only one has the cocktail bar.
Hotel Arena $$
The restaurant recently opened after a few months renovations. At the time of my visit the hotel itself, wasn’t open for guests. We went for a causal lunch before a day of sight seeing. I was immediately impressed by the modern botanical decor. Lunch portions were adequate and the food acceptable. I believe the dinner menu might be more supple.
