Tulum, Take Three

img_2906One of the joys of living in New York City is the easy access to weekend getaways. With three airports each less than 1 hour drive from most boroughs, it’s possible to be on a beach in 4 hours. If I didn’t say it before, I’ll say it again I LOVE MEXICO. Taking a long weekend along the Yucatan Peninsula is soothing to my soul and it’s impossible to not fall in love with Tulum. Which is why my sister and I decided to take my mother for her X0 birthday :).15442174_10101178794104395_6192848920723546507_n-1

Car Rental
I reserved a car with Hertz and the process was seamless. Despite the car being yellow :/. The drive is about 2 hours, route is well paved and essentially a straight road until you hit Tulum. The final cost of renting a car was $180 which is cheaper than transportation to and from the airport for 3 people. Check out Cancun Car Rental Tips for more details.

Where To Stay
We stayed at the fabulously rustic Posada Margarita. Be sure to reserve a room at least 2 months in advance for this hotel as it’s extremely popular for frequent visitors. There are 10 rooms, a delicious beach front restaurant and a luxurious boutique with clothing, candles, and specialty liquor. Each room is uniquely decorated and ranges in price and size. The staff is helpful and non-intrusive. The hotel has 3 parking spots at the entrance but affordable parking is also across the street.

The hotel is centrally located on the main beach strip so you’re able to walk to the left or right and encounter a great assortment of beach bars, restaurants, and shops.
